5 security basics every small business website needs
Simple, low-cost steps that protect your website, your customers, and your reputation.

Most website compromises exploit simple gaps. These five basics close the most common ones.
1. Use HTTPS everywhere
An SSL certificate encrypts traffic between visitors and your site. Modern hosts provide free certificates — there is no reason to go without one.
2. Use strong, unique passwords
Every administrator should have their own account with a strong password. Never share one login across your team.
3. Keep software updated
Outdated plugins and frameworks are a common entry point. Schedule regular updates as part of maintenance.
4. Collect only the data you need
Every extra field in a form is personal data you must protect. Keep forms short and consistent with the Kenya Data Protection Act, 2019.
5. Keep backups
Regular, tested backups mean a problem becomes an inconvenience rather than a disaster.
